Pinnacle Tours The Pinnacles are located in the Nambung National Park about 20 kms south-east of Cervantes and about 270 kms north of Perth. The area is arguably the most popular single tourist destination in WA with well in excess of 200.000 visitors per year. With countless thousands of limestone pillars rising up out of the bright yellow sand, this area consistently exceeds the expectations of first time visitors. There are several misconceptions about the Pinnacles. Despite what some guides/operators claim, they are not petrified trees and fish never swam between them. They are a relatively recent geological phenomenon that is best explained on site. Another fallacy concerns access. For a long time the road (?) to the Pinnacles was little better than a “goat track” and best travelled in a 4WD. For a number of years now the main access road has been sealed and whilst the circuit through the Pinnacles is (and should remain) hard sand, almost any conventional vehicle can safely get to and through this unusual area. Please note: Larger vehicles can not access the Pinnacles circuit. In order to make use of the normally better light conditions and to avoid the crowds that arrive on the day tours from Perth, Pinnacle tours usually depart at 8:00 am or again at 2½ hours before sunset. If you are interested in visiting this "Moonscape on Earth" but don't have your own transport, Greyhound Australia run a regular bus service to and from Cervantes. Their coaches arrive in Cervantes at about 1.20pm on the Perth-Broome service and around 1.40pm on the southern run. This gives you the choice of joining either a sunset or morning tour and still continuing your journey the next day. For more details visit www.greyhound.com.auAll that we can say is :- “That on our tour, you will see and learn much more about this unusual area than you could do on your own.” |
